"12 Steps for Getting Lost"  is an outdoor, experiential performance - workshop that offers a somatic practice for relational orientation and shared disorientation.

Inspired by the traditional "12 Steps" method, this workshop invites participants to intentionally get lost by disengaging from their reliance on GPS and digital maps. Through guided walking, attentive listening, and movement, the practice becomes a poetic inquiry into how we navigate space—physically, socially, and emotionally. It's not about finding a final answer, but about embracing the uncertainty of not-knowing to create a shared sense of presence and connection.

The project was created as part of the "Re:lease" residency at the Center for Contemporary Art Arad and was first presented in a group exhibition at the center at 2025.

The 12 Steps for Getting Lost

  1. We admitted we were powerless over our need to know where we are — in relation to others and to space.

  2. We came to believe that no one will find us.

  3. We made a decision to get lost, and to do so, we continued trying to find the way.

  4. We turned off the phone, took some water, and removed our watches.

  5. We asked: Where am I? What object am I orienting toward? We confessed it.

  6. We understood that in order to get lost, we must keep seeking objects to orient ourselves, keep trying not to see them, and keep knowing no one will find us.

  7. We humbly asked to stop seeing the object we oriented by, and made any physical change necessary (we walked away).

  8. We searched for a horizon or visible boundary we could recognize.

  9. We humbly asked to stop seeing that boundary, and made any physical change necessary.

  10. We asked again: Where am I? Am I lost yet? If not, we confessed and returned to the steps.

  11. We looked. We repeated the steps using our sense of hearing: Where am I? What am I orienting toward? We confessed it, and humbly asked to stop hearing it.

  12. Having gotten lost, we tried to carry this knowledge forward and apply its principles in all aspects of our lives.
